J. Smith Motors commenced as a car mechanic and repair service in December 1956. From that time onwards, our proudly displayed VACC insignia has been a guarantee of quality service.
Although established in a new area on Morwell’s outskirts, the business quickly established a favourable reputation. Workshop extensions were soon necessary to provide for the growing number of customers.
In 1969 we won the bid to provide RACV roadside services in the Morwell area. Our office also began offering member services such as new memberships renewals. Soon after, we were able to offer customer assistance for the RACV’s widening
range of insurance policies for cars, boats, caravans, trailers and homes.
Our RACV Roadside Assist role later expanded to take on the whole Latrobe Valley area. This emergency breakdown service is on call, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Today, from our Morwell base, we cover an area of 700 square kilometres.
Roadside assistance is provided to thousands of stranded drivers each year.
We currently have a staff of 7 who manage the workshop repairs, RACV Roadside Assistance and RACV member services. Our mechanics are highly trained and experienced, with advanced skills in vehicle diagnostics. We ensure that they
are kept fully up to date with changing vehicle technologies, systems and repair methods.
We also have a number of specialised workshop services in which staff have also been trained. Recognised certifications for air conditioner work, Roadworthiness Certificate testing, and child restraint fitting are held by a number
of staff. There will always be someone available with these qualifications, even if we are busy with RACV roadside calls.
Today, J. Smith Motors is one of the Latrobe Valley area’s longest serving independent car centres. We believe that our success is due to our commitment to our many long-standing customers. And we are also proud that our reputation
has been built on the automotive skills of our expert staff.
